Wine Tasting

I'm very spoiled to have good friends with a wide range of talents and professions, and thankfully sometimes I get to share in some cool events because of it.  Two of my close friends in NYC are culinary school graduates, and when combined with a couple guys who happen to love good wine, I got to enjoy a really fun Italian themed wine tasting party.  Since I'm in with the chefs, I went with them a bit early to help prepare some of the food...my contributions were mostly limited to sauteing and stirring, but I didn't ruin anything, so I'll count that as a success.

Our host actually came up with this idea for "Italian Sushi" using prosciutto as a wrap, mushroom risotto as the rice, and asparagus for a little crunch and color inside...I highly recommend these.

The very important scoring sheets...we tried our best...

Pouring wine from the bottle hidden with a paper bag...not to be at all influenced by labels

The scoring sheets proved to require a bit too much concentration for some

And we finished off the evening with some ricotta cheesecake and individual tiramisu bowls (with homemade ladyfingers of course)

I had never been to a themed wine tasting party like this, but definitely a really fun evening and something we'll all try to do again...perhaps I'll have to bring this idea back to Austria and try a different region of wine and food and see how it goes!
