An Ethiopian Aventure

I suppose really I should give some background for this, starting Sunday morning, when I went to visit a church here that was sort of the top of my list as far as churches to check out in Vienna from doing my research online before I left the States.  The service was great, the people are so so friendly, and the young adult group invited me to join them for lunch Sunday, which turned out to be about 13 of us eating ribs and having a great time for several hours Sunday afternoon.  At the end of that meal, some of them were discussing going for Ethiopian food on Wednesday night, and asked me if I'd like to join along.  A few days and a few emails later, here I am.

Today was spent mostly reading and preparing for my seminar class tomorrow, which is a 4 1/2 hour block class from 9:30 to 2 tomorrow...yikes.  So I was more than happy to head out to meet this group for dinner.

Yup.  That's what it's called.

10 of us met up tonight, and we're all mostly in our late 20s and early 30s so we're all coming from work or classes, and we are quite a diverse bunch.  The menus are in Ethiopian and German, but thankfully we had 2 in our group from Eritrea (one of which had suggested the restaurant) so we ultimately decided to just let them order for us and we'd be more than happy with whatever came.  Good choice on our part.

3 of these showed up on our table, plus 3 other little dishes of meat with sauce.

This is what was underneath! A mix of chicken, beef, lamb and lentils with vegetables.

We dug in with our hands and ate and talked and laughed for about two and a half hours, and it was wonderful.  With our very diverse backgrounds we're able to all bring such unique things to the conversation which is really fun.

This is the front door on the way out.  Love it.

Guten Nacht!
