I Have Internet!

Wow. Super busy day.  This morning I got up and successfully went to the scary government building and turned in my completed Meldezettel form, which wasn't much trouble actually, just the form and my passport and an official letter from my school saying that I am enrolled there.  Sadly (or not) today the room where I had to go was not the scary room that I went to before, but instead they were running out of a different office that looked much more normal.

Since that ended up not taking much time, and I didn't have to be up at school until 1pm today, I decided to go to the computer/internet store where the helpful girl from the print cartridge shop suggested.  I got on the U-bahn and made it out there before the store opened at 10, so I took this picture which should help give some idea of where school is in relation to the city.
again...not an attractive picture...but...those are vineyards in the distance...and the tiny white building on top of the hill (just to the right of the building with "Heute" on top, but in the way distance) is where school is.

This computer store looked like the closest thing to a big box store (think Best Buy) that I had seen so far, so that's basically what I was expecting when I went inside.  Although instead of aisles and aisles of products, there were just 6 desks with guys behind them and computer screens.  Everyone got in a line and went up to the desks one at a time.  When it was my turn I went up there and explained roughly what I needed (some sort of wireless router to get the internet from the wall to my room) and up pops something on the video screen that looks exactly like what I wanted.  I paid for it and took my little number to another desk where products were being sent down from the warehouse (what I assume is taking up the rest of the "box" space).  The entire process took EIGHT minutes.  I was amazed.  I left there and successfully set up the router, so I now have working internet in my room! yay!

I then went back up to school for my afternoon orientation session, and I tried to somewhat document what my "commute" looks like:
my stop for the strassenbahn, my building is behind me to the right.

the 38 is coming! yay!

this is where I get off to transfer to the bus...also the end of this line.

Grinzing

Grinzing while I wait for the bus.

Ok...so my next job will be to document what happens after this...but I'll get there.  The bus ride is harder to take pictures of because things come out blurry and weird, but I'll get it done eventually.

Some of us went on a walking tour of the city center of Vienna this afternoon, and it's pretty chilly out today, so we ended up all going to an Austrian pub type place for dinner to warm up, and now I'm home and about ready to crash.

I'll post some other random pictures and things tomorrow, and see if I can get any of the video to work.

Goodnight!

I love the composition of the photo in Grinzing where you get off the Strassenbaun to wait for the bus.
